Roading

SICON has won contracts with Transit New Zealand and Local Authorities for work that varies from State Highway carriageways and passing lanes, maintenance of urban roads, rural roads, bridges, cattle underpasses and footpaths.

The full range of tasks are undertaken from installing drainage systems to street lighting.

In 2000 SICON were thrilled to receive the Supreme Award and "Contractor of the Year" presented by the NZ Contractors' Federation. The Award related to the elegant CBD street environment created for Timaru District Council. The central streets of Timaru and Temuka were transformed into the vibrant "cafe scene" they are today.

Sub Division Developments

SICON Ltd has been involved with many sub-divisions with tasks ranging from roading, kerb and channel, water supply, drainage and landscaping. Seafield Park, located near Spencer Park in christchurch, was recently completed. the project involved all earthworks, drainage, services, roading and landscaping for the 36 residential lots. Special features here included exposed aggregate concrete thresh-holds, rural swale drains and significant landscape planting.

Another sub-division recently completed was at Forest Park, again near Christchurch. The 44 residential lots of the sub-division required 300mm sewer laid over 3m deep and 675mm concrete stormwater main.

Parks and Garden

SICON has untertaken many specialist gardening projects from the amenity planting of road-sides and median strips, to the maintenance of Botanical Gardens and propogation of specialist plants. During the summer we are called on to prepare cricket wickets for weekly matches and have several contracts for the maintenance of various school grounds.

Roadside landscaping is undertaken in association with sub-division developments.

Tree Maintenance

Tree Surgery

Our qualified and experienced arborists are trained and equipped to carry out all aspects of tree care and management—from formative pruning of newly planted trees, through to crane assisted removal of large or aged trees.

Consultancy

We are able to provide tree owners and asset managers detailed tree surveys and tree reports which assess the condition and health of the tree as well as pest and disease management, tree preservation on construction sites, dispute mediation and tree hazard identification.

Electrical Power Line Clearance

SICON Ltd are “Network Approved” for carrying out vegetation control in and around electrical distribution lines.

State Highway Clearance

Transit NZ have authorized SICON to carry out trimming and felling operations in the vicinity of their road network.

Emergency Call Out

We provide a 24-hour emergency call out service to clear roads, properties and utility services following storm damage, road accidents or any other situation where trees or tree debris pose a hazard to people or property.

Planting Programmes and Advice

Our specialist arborists can provide detailed programmes for tree planting, as well as advice on species and maintenance requirements.

Workshops and Engineering

Workshops

SICON Ltd has fully equipped workshops located at Darfield, Leeston, Timaru and Rangiora. The skilled technicians keep SICON's fleet of trucks, utes, excavators, rollers, trailers etc fully operational and well maintained. Many private clients also use the workshop facilities for WOF's, general servicing and specialist repairs in both diesel and petrol engines large and small.

Engineering

Sometimes it is necessary to "think outside the square" to provide solutions to problems regarding suitability and efficiency in plant operation. The engineering team at SICON can design, build, test and commission plant to meet SICON's and client's needs. Turn an old fire-engine into a signs truck? Not a problem. Turn a stock trailer into an excavator-transport? Not a problem.

Design and build a "double-action" grader? Not a problem.

Sewer and Waste Water

Our skilled staff will monitor, report and rectify problems with water intake and flows from the main river sources, as well as install and maintain domestic tobies at your front gate.

Work includes:

  • Laying of deep underground pipework
  • Construction of reservoirs
  • Domestic water connections

SICON (South Canterbury Branch) recently installed a 300mm diameter trunk water main in Old North Road. This pipework was special in that it was the largest diameter oPVC pipe to be used in the South Island.

Landfill Maintenance

SICON manage and maintain landfills to strict environmental conditions, including leachate and gas control, sediment control and compaction.
